At Hillside we understand that supporting and helping your child with their maths homework is very important to you. Therefore, staff have made a series of short video clips that show clearly the methods and language we use to teach the children maths. There are several examples demonstrating how we teach each of the basic operations.
We hope these will be helpful, however if you are still unsure feel free to talk to your child's teacher.

Times Tables
Upon successful completion of a timed test, badges are awarded to children in a special ‘Achievement Assembly’ held every Tuesday.
Children can earn a total of seven badges; bronze, silver, gold, earth, moon, sun and star.
A certificate is awarded for achieving Platinum.
Our aim is for children to achieve Bronze and Earth during Year 3, Silver and Moon during Year 4, Gold and Sun during Year 5, Platinum and the Star badge in Year 6.
Many children achieve all their badges sooner than this.
The criteria for each badge is as follows:
MULTIPLICATION
Bronze - 2, 5 & 10 times tables
Silver – 3, 4, 6 & 8 times tables
Gold – 7, 9, 11 and 12 times tables
DIVISION
Earth – 2, 5 & 10
Moon – 3, 4, 6 & 8
Sun – 7, 9, 11 & 12
Platinum - A mixture of 200 division questions to be completed in 10 minutes
Star – A mixture of 200 division questions to be completed in 5 minutes
